What happened to the West Quad Computing Group?

The West Quad Computing Group has been folded into the new Web and Advanced Research Platforms (WARP) team of HMS IT.

West Quad Computing Group (WQCG) -- 2001 - 2016

The West Quad Computing Group was founded circa 2001 to address the research computing needs of the West Quad departments of HMS: Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology (BCMP), Cell Biology, and the Institute of Chemistry and Cell Biology (ICCB), including Unix/Linux-based computation, storage, clustered computing and web site development. At the time, the Department of Information Technology was not positioned to address the needs of the HMS research community, and WQCG was funded by the above departments, with matching funding from HMS administration to address these needs.

In 2014, WQCG joined forces with HMS IT, which had greatly increased its support of research computing and related services.  WQCG continued the same focus on the West Quad research departments.  In 2016, WQCG was folded into the newly create Web and Advanced Research Platforms (WARP) group, and the name was adjusted to reflect both the addition of a larger web team, and a refocusing on the research computing support needs across labs in the wider HMS research community.
